Chickety chick

Well, ok, I relented. My companion is more forgiving, so we tried our 'luck' at the cashier counter and they said we could take the table. What went in? Some chicken meat. fries and pancakes (sort of). How much did it cost me? Too much. That said, the sizes of the chicken wings were quite large, and it comes with a pair of gloves, gratis.

Beauty and the bench

This restaurant refused to seat me and my companion (yeah, just the two of us) at this table, because it is meant for 4 people (maybe five if you squeeze). There wasn't another empty table in sight. I was so flabbergasted that I walked out, taking my money with me. Maybe they just don't need my business anyway.

Soda Pop

Is this a new brand of soda, I mean the carbonated type for drinking? It is packaged like a 1.5L drink you would commonly see on supermarket shelves.

But it isn't. It is washing or cleaning soda. I am concerned. What if a child drank it, not realising that it isn't what he thinks it is.

Distasteful Shots

I don't mean to be mean. But I just couldn't help commenting to my partner while waiting in line for a seat to a popular local Japanese eatery. We thumbed through menu deciding what to eat, and came across these 2 items. The pictures were a isntant put-off. In the first picture, you have what looks like a bowl of, ermm, mud taking center-stage. The second picture is no better. The dishes looked like uncooked sea slugs or something. Both are really turn-offs. Who would choose to eat these? The person who took the photos, and the person who approved it for print in the menu must both be "shot" for such distasteful shots.

Have your cake

Truth be told, this serving of carrot cake is much much larger than what you will get in any Kopitiam Foodcourt. Got it for $3. Kopitiam will charge you at least $4, $5 if it is located in one of the newer malls.

Inflated Mee Goreng

A simple meal of Mee Goreng, bought off an eatery in the Aljunied MRT station, set me back by S$4.00! The MRT is frequented by the low to lower middle-income people, like me. That's runnaway inflation for you!

Coupon Bonanza

Coupons are great. Coupons are real price savers. No matter if they sell hardware, aesthetic packages, or food. But the prices on this coupon takes the, err, cake for doing the opposite:

I wonder if I can get this at the usual price (UP) instead?.

Money Tea

It is Chinese New Year, and restaurants are all getting in on the occasion by offering one meal package or another. This restaurant shows it understands the sentiments of the occasion.

Another way to inflate prizes is to shrink the portion. This serving of herbal chicken is really pea-size, I kid you not.

Skinnies

Nowadays, chopsticks are really what they are - sticks. Ever noticed that in Singapore, public eateries (aka Hawker Centres/Foodcourts) are serving up ever thinner and flimsy chopsticks? Sometime I worry about accidentaly eating the chopstick too. Yes, there is more than one way to up prices...

Squishy Tomato

It's probably not an expensive item on the menu, but this is a real waste. Talk of climate change, People have to change their eating habits first.

Jack of all Fruits

I've rarely seen Jackfruits as big as these. And here, there's not one but a bunch stacked high. I wouldn't be able to carry one off by myself, not to mentioned the entire lot!

Beefy meal

I don't know what the Physics is behind this. but the beef is being cooked - yes cooked. The beef is placed on a leaf, which in turn is held in a gauze container which in turn is being cooked in a 'live' flame. At first, the meat was tough - really rare, but as the cooking progressed, it became medium to well done, depending on when you want to eat it. Really tasty too.
Get it at Sakae Sushi.
p.s. You need to 'refuel' to get the mean cooked really well. Don't to shy to ask.
